LINEAS (2025)

Logline

After experiencing great loss, a successful painter seeks to pick up the pieces on the vibrant island of Puerto Rico. But a serendipitous friendship leads her to find inspiration in an unexpected way.

Synopsis

After the loss of her husband, Luisa, a painter struggling with grief, retreats to Puerto Rico in search of inspiration but finds herself unable to create. Days pass in quiet repetition—waking, trying, failing—until a fleeting moment of instinct draws her into the path of Don Eugenio, an elderly man burdened by his own grief. Despite his failing sight and hearing, they build a quiet bond that grows in the rhythm of their daily encounters.

Meanwhile, in a place she nearly forgot to look, she finds words from her past—words that reach her exactly when she needs them. A gentle reminder. A quiet push forward.

As Luisa rediscovers the beauty in small moments—the laughter of children, the rhythm of the plaza, the act of helping a stranger—she is drawn back to the canvas. But in the end, it is a final gift from Don Eugenio that reveals an unseen thread connecting their lives in ways she never imagined.

Director's Statement

At its core, LINEAS is a story about connection—the invisible lines that bind us to each other, even in moments of loss and isolation. Through the journey of an artist grappling with grief, this film reflects how we can guide each other back to life by way of the shared threads in our struggles, joys, and creativity.

My approach to this film was to ground this story in authenticity, let it breathe, and allow the emotions to come through organically. Dialogue is sparse, reflecting how life’s most poignant moments are often found in silence—in a shared glace, a subtle gesture, or the simple rhythm of time passing. The actors embraced these subtleties and brought incredible depth to their performances, finding the nuances that make their characters feel real. My goal was to honor their work by shaping a visual narrative that allows the audience to experience the story’s depth and interpret its layers in a way that feels personal.

Filming in Puerto Rico brought a unique texture to LINEAS. The island’s vibrant culture and rhythm strike a delicate balance between stillness and swift motion, perfectly mirroring the film’s themes of time feeling both suspended and fleeting. This dynamic echoes the characters’ own journeys, capturing their emotional states and internal cadence.

LINEAS is a meditation on how we heal, how we create, and how we are never truly alone. The film invites viewers to consider their own connections—the seen and unseen—that give life its depth and meaning. It’s a quiet invitation to slow down, look up, and see the lines that connect us all.
